Muharraq Island

Muharraq Island is the second-largest island in Bahrain and serves as the primary gateway to the country, as it houses the Bahrain International Airport. Travelers visit the island to explore its historical districts, coastal areas, and the infrastructure connecting it to the main island of Bahrain.

Getting There

The island is connected to Manama via a series of bridges. From the city centre, it is accessible by taxi or rental car. The trip typically takes 15 to 30 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Duration of Visit

Depending on the itinerary, visitors should allow between half a day and a full day to explore the various sites and the coastline.

When to Visit

Due to the regional climate, visiting during the cooler months from November to March is recommended to avoid extreme heat. Early morning or late afternoon is preferred for outdoor activities. The area around the airport and main transit points can become crowded during peak travel hours.

Nearby Attractions

The island and its surroundings offer several points of interest within a short distance:

  • Arad Fort (2km)
  • Qal‘at Bū Māhir (3.8km)
  • Amwaj Islands (3.8km)
  • Al Hasan Mosque (4.1km)
