Nature
Sambre
A river that rises in northern France and flows through Belgium's Wallonia region. It meets the Meuse at Namur, making the riverbank a pleasant place for a walk.

St Aubin's Cathedral
A Roman Catholic cathedral in Namur, and Belgium's only cathedral built in the late Baroque style. It is the only cathedral newly built in the Low Countries since 1559, and is listed as major heritage of Wallonia.

Citadel of Namur
A fortress at the confluence of the Sambre and Meuse rivers, with origins dating back to Roman times and rebuilt many times since. From the hilltop, visitors can enjoy sweeping views where the two rivers meet.

Goyet Caves
A cave system in limestone cliffs overlooking the Samson River, near Namur, Belgium. It's known as a prehistoric site where numerous fossils and artifacts from Neanderthals and early modern humans have been discovered.

This cave site sits in a hillside village near Andenne in Wallonia; excavations since 1978 have unearthed roughly 13,000 stone artifacts. It drew wide attention in 1993 when the fossil remains of a Neanderthal child were discovered there.

Fort de Saint-Héribert
One of the ring of forts surrounding Namur, Belgium, built between 1888 and 1892. Unusually for its time, it was built entirely of concrete, and it still bears traces of fierce fighting from World War I.

Saint Lupus Church
Saint-Loup Church is a Baroque church in downtown Namur, built by the Jesuits and known for its ornate interior. It's a great place to take your time admiring the intricate carvings and decoration.

Île de Dave, on the Meuse, is one of Belgium's larger river islands and a nature reserve with wetland forest and diverse waterfowl. A walk along the riverside path is a peaceful way to enjoy nature.
