Datun Mountain

Datun Mountain is a peak within Yangmingshan National Park in New Taipei City. Reaching an elevation of 1,092 meters, it is the third-highest point in the park. Visitors go here to hike through volcanic terrain and observe the geological features of one of Taiwan's two active volcanoes.

Getting There

The mountain is located in the outskirts of the city. From central Taipei, travelers typically take a combination of the MRT and local buses or taxis to reach the park entrance. The journey generally takes between 60 to 90 minutes depending on traffic and the specific trailhead used.

Duration of Visit

Depending on the chosen trail and hiking pace, visitors should allow 4 to 6 hours to ascend the mountain and return. This includes time for resting and observing the volcanic landscape.

When to Visit

The area is most accessible during the autumn and winter months when temperatures are cooler. It is advisable to start the hike early in the morning to avoid afternoon weather changes. The trails can become crowded during public holidays and weekends.
