What It Is

Plaošnik is an archaeological site and historic pilgrimage location in the upper quarter of Ohrid. It contains ancient foundations, early Christian ruins, and reconstructed heritage buildings. Ongoing excavation work allows visitors to view active archaeological research alongside restored structures.

Getting There

From the Ohrid city centre, walk uphill through the cobblestone lanes of the Old Town. The walk takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes. Alternatively, local taxis can drive to the upper road near the site entrance.

Time to Spend

Set aside 45 to 60 minutes to view the excavated ruins, mosaics, and central church grounds.

When to Visit

Early morning or late afternoon is ideal to avoid midday heat, as the open site has limited shade. Tour groups frequently visit between late morning and early afternoon during the summer, making walkways crowded. Spring and autumn offer cooler temperatures and lighter foot traffic.
