What It Is

The International Mountain Museum documents Himalayan mountaineering history, geography, and the cultures of Nepal's mountain communities. The halls display climbing equipment, expedition records, geological specimens, and cultural artifacts. Travellers typically visit before or after trekking to gain context on the region's routes and peoples.

Getting There

Located in southern Pokhara near Pokhara Airport, the museum is about 15 to 20 minutes by taxi from the city centre and Lakeside. Local buses and auto-rickshaws also service the area.

Suggested Duration

Plan to spend 1.5 to 2.5 hours to view the indoor galleries and outdoor grounds.

When to Go

Mornings tend to be quieter. Midday often brings student groups and tour buses. As the exhibits are indoors, it is a practical stop on rainy days or when clouds obscure mountain views.
