Taipei's dense downtown has almost no standalone pool villas, so this style of stay sits just outside the MRT core, in three areas with different characters.

Beitou and Xinbeitou

A hot spring district on the red MRT line, about 30 minutes from central Taipei. Many properties here are hot-spring resorts with private in-room or suite pools fed by mineral water, rather than chlorinated pools. Xinbeitou station puts museums, the thermal valley, and public bathhouses within walking distance, and you can still reach downtown sights same-day.

Yangmingshan

A national park area above the city with a cooler climate and a handful of hot spring resorts with outdoor pools and mountain views. There's no MRT station here; access is by bus from Jiantan station, so service is less frequent and a car or taxi is more practical, especially with luggage or at night.

North coast towns (Jinshan, Wanli)

Coastal resorts here offer sea-view pools and more space, but they sit outside the MRT network entirely. Expect a bus transfer or a hired car/shuttle of an hour or more, so this suits a one- or two-night add-on rather than a full-trip base.

• Whether it's heated hot-spring water (sulfur smell, mineral staining) or a standard treated pool
• Whether outdoor pools are seasonal or closed in poor weather

When to visit

Hot spring resorts in Beitou and Yangmingshan see higher demand in cooler months (autumn through winter) when a hot bath is more appealing, plus weekends and Lunar New Year. Coastal pool villas are busiest in summer, but typhoon season (roughly July to September) can disrupt outdoor pool access, so build in flexibility if visiting then.
