Daan Forest Park

Daan Forest Park

Daan Forest Park is a public park near the centre of the Da'an District of Taipei, Taiwan. The park occupies twenty-six hectares and is bordered on its north, south, east, and west by Xinyi Road (信義路), Heping E. Road (和平東路), Jianguo S. Road (建國南路), and Xinsheng S. Road (新生南路), respectively. The park is used by residents of Taipei as a green activity space and for various outdoor activities. The park was created in 1994 after the eviction of longtime squatters and the demolition of illegal buildings on municipal land.

Daan Forest Park

Daan Forest Park is a 26-hectare green space in the Da'an District, one of the largest parks in central Taipei. It functions as a working city park rather than a manicured showpiece: locals come here to jog, walk dogs, practice tai chi, cycle, or simply sit under the tree canopy. There's a pond with turtles and birdlife, open lawns, and a playground area, giving it a mixed use that feels more residential than touristy.

Getting there

The park sits right above Daan Park MRT Station on the red line, so it's directly accessible by metro. From Taipei Main Station it takes roughly 15-20 minutes including the walk from the platform.

How long to stay

An hour is enough for a loop through the main paths and around the pond. Allow closer to two hours if you want to sit, people-watch, or walk the perimeter slowly.

When to go

Mornings and early evenings are quieter and cooler, which matters given Taipei's humidity in summer. Weekends bring out families and larger crowds, especially around the playground and open lawns, so weekday visits are calmer.

Nearby

The park's location makes it easy to combine with a short walking route:

  • Taipei Grand Mosque (0.3km) – an easy add-on right next to the park.
  • Taipei Taiwan Temple (0.8km) – a short walk further.
  • Taipei Cultural Mosque (1.4km) – reachable on the same walking loop.
  • Liberty Square (1.5km) – a bit further but still walkable, or a quick MRT ride if you'd rather save time.
