Kneuterdijk Palace

Built in 1716 in the Louis XIV style, this former royal residence once housed Crown Prince Willem II and Anna Pavlovna. It is an example of 18th-century palace architecture in The Hague. Visitors go to view the exterior of the palace and its historical significance as the current seat of the Council of State of the Netherlands.

Getting There

The palace is located within the central district of The Hague. From the city centre, it is accessible via a short walk or a brief tram ride, typically taking 5 to 10 minutes depending on your starting point.

Time Allocation

Since the building serves as an active government office, visitors primarily view the architecture from the outside. Allow 20 to 30 minutes to observe the facade and the surrounding streetscape.

When to Visit

The area is most active during weekday business hours due to the presence of government offices. To avoid the heaviest commuter traffic, visit during the early morning or weekends. The site remains accessible in all seasons.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its central location, the palace can be combined with several other sites within walking distance:

  • Noordeinde Palace (0.2km)
  • Pulchri Studio (0.2km)
  • Gallery Prince Willem V (0.2km)
  • Kloosterkerk (0.1km)
