What It Is

The Erebuni Museum is an archaeological and history museum at the base of Erebuni Fortress in Yerevan. Founded in 782 BC as an Urartian stronghold, it represents the ancient origins of Yerevan. Visitors can explore excavated artifacts in the indoor museum and walk through the open-air fortress ruins on the hill.

Getting There

Located roughly 5 kilometers southeast of the city centre, the site takes 15 to 20 minutes by taxi or rideshare from Republic Square. Public buses and minibuses also connect the area in approximately 30 to 40 minutes.

Time to Allow

Set aside 1.5 to 2 hours to cover both the indoor exhibition rooms and the outdoor archaeological grounds.

When to Visit

The fortress ruins are exposed with little shade, so visit in the morning or late afternoon during summer. Spring and autumn provide milder weather for walking the hillside. Crowds are generally manageable, with occasional school groups.
