Jōten-ji Temple
Jōten-ji (承天寺) is a Rinzai temple in Hakata, Fukuoka, Japan. Its honorary sangō prefix is Banshōsan (萬松山). It was founded by Enni-Ben'en upon his return from China, with support from Xie Guo Ming, a Chinese merchant. Construction was completed in 1242.

Getting there

Time to allow
Plan on 20 to 30 minutes. The grounds are compact, and unless you're lingering over the garden or a specific hall, there isn't a lot of built-in time here.
When to go
Mornings tend to be calmer, since this isn't a heavily touristed stop compared to nearby Kushida Shrine. As a working temple, treat it as a place to visit respectfully rather than a photo stop, and be mindful during any active religious observances.

Jōten-ji is well placed for a short temple-and-shrine walk: Tōchō-ji Temple and Shōfuku-ji Temple are both about 0.3km away, and Kushida Shrine is roughly 0.6km away. If you want to extend the outing, Hakata-za theatre is about 1km further on.
