San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore
San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore is a church in Milan, Northern Italy. It was originally attached to the most important female convent of the Benedictines in the city, Monastero Maggiore, which is now in use as the Civic Archaeological Museum. The church today is used every Sunday from October to June to celebrate in the Byzantine Rite, in Greek according to the Italo-Albanian tradition. It is also used as a concert hall.

San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore is a Renaissance church in central Milan, built as the church of the city's largest women's Benedictine convent. What draws visitors is the interior: the entire nave and the nuns' hall behind the choir screen are covered in 16th-century frescoes, largely by Bernardino Luini and his workshop, giving it a density of decoration that's unusual for a church this size. It's sometimes called Milan's "Sistine Chapel" for that reason, though the comparison is more about coverage than scale. The former convent buildings next door now house the Civic Archaeological Museum.
Getting there
It sits on Corso Magenta, within easy walking distance of the Duomo (around 20-25 minutes on foot) or a short ride on the metro/tram network to the Cadorna area, from which it's a few minutes' walk.
Time to allow
Most visitors spend 20-30 minutes inside, longer if you also visit the archaeological museum next door, in which case budget an hour or more for both.
When to go
The church can be dim, so visiting on a bright day or bringing coins for the light box (if available) helps with viewing the frescoes. It's less crowded than the Duomo or Sant'Ambrogio, so there's rarely an issue with queues, but check locally whether concerts or services are scheduled, as these can restrict access to parts of the interior.

Teatro dal Verme is about 0.3km away, and the Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio, one of Milan's oldest churches, is roughly 0.4km further.
