Alta Badia

アルタ・バディア

Alta Badia is a ski resort in the Dolomites of northern Italy, in the upper part of the Val Badia in South Tyrol. It is part of the Dolomiti Superski ski area. It is included in the territories of the municipalities of Corvara, Badia, and La Val. Centered on Corvara, the extended area's lift-served summit elevation is 2,550 m (8,366 ft) on the Sella group, with an overall vertical drop of 1,226 m (4,022 ft) to Pedraces. The native language of the majority of the locals is Ladin.

Alta Badia

Alta Badia is the ski and hiking area in the upper Val Badia, spread across the villages of Corvara, Badia, and La Val at the foot of the Sella group and Piz Boè. In winter it's part of the Dolomiti Superski network, with lift-served skiing up to about 2,550 m and a long descent down toward Pedraces. In summer the same lifts and trails serve hikers and mountain bikers heading up toward the Sella massif. The valley is Ladin-speaking, which shows up on signage and in local culture.

Getting there

Corvara, the main village, sits in the valley center and is reached by road, since there's no train line into Alta Badia. Most visitors arrive by car or shuttle bus from Bolzano or Brunico, a drive of roughly one to one and a half hours depending on the starting point. Within the area, buses connect the villages, and in winter a ski bus links the main lift stations.

How much time to allow

A single day covers a taste of the area — one or two lift rides plus a walk or a few ski runs. To take in more of the surrounding passes and trails, plan on two to three days based in Corvara or one of the smaller villages.

When to go

Winter (roughly December to March) is ski season and the busiest period, especially around Christmas, New Year, and February half-term weeks. Summer draws hikers and cyclists, with July and August the busiest months; late spring and early autumn are quieter but some lifts may run limited schedules. Weekday mornings are generally calmer than weekends.

Combine it with

  • Campolongo Pass (3.7 km) — a short drive away, a natural link toward Arabba.
  • Gardena Pass (4.9 km) — connects toward Val Gardena.
  • Dolomiti Superski (5.3 km) — the wider lift network Alta Badia belongs to.
  • Piz Boè (5.9 km) — a summit reachable by lift and trail from the area.
