Cinque Torri
チンクェトッリ(イタリア語: Cinque Torri、5 Torriとも書く)はイタリアの山岳地帯ドロミーティ東部のヌヴォラーウ山群(イタリア語: Gruppo del Nuvolau)北東部にある岩山群である。アヴェラーウの一部としてアヴェラーウのチンクェトッリ(イタリア語: Cinque Torri di Averau)とも呼ばれる。カタカナではチンクエトッリ、チンクエトーリ、チンクェ・トッリ、チンクエ・トッリなどの表記のバリエーションがある。
What it is
Cinque Torri is a group of five rock towers in the Nuvolau group of the Ampezzo Dolomites, standing above the tree line with open views across the surrounding peaks. It's a walking and scrambling destination rather than a single monument: you approach the towers on foot and can circle or climb among them. The area was also used as an Italian defensive position during the First World War, and remnants of trenches and fortifications are still visible on the surrounding slopes.
Getting there
From Cortina d'Ampezzo, it's about a 15-20 minute drive southwest to the Cinque Torri parking area and chairlift base, following the road toward Passo Falzarego. In summer, a chairlift can take you up close to the towers; in other seasons, or if it's not running, it's a walk of an hour or more uphill from the car park.
Time to allow
Allow at least 2-3 hours for a walk around the towers and the open-air museum trenches. If you plan to hike further into the Nuvolau or Averau area, or want time to explore the war remnants in detail, budget half a day.
When to go
This is a summer and early autumn hiking area; snow cover in winter limits access to skiing/snowshoeing rather than the towers themselves. Go early in the day if possible, since the parking area and chairlift queues can get busy in high season, especially around midday in July and August. Weather in the Dolomites changes quickly, so check conditions before heading up, as the towers are exposed with little shelter.
Combine it with
- Giau Pass (2.8 km) - a scenic mountain pass, easily combined as part of a driving loop.
- Falzarego Pass (3.6 km) - close by on the same road, with connections toward Lagazuoi.
- Lagazuoi Piccolo (4.5 km) - reachable via Falzarego, known for its own wartime tunnels and viewpoints.
- Valparola Pass (4.7 km) - a natural extension if continuing past Falzarego.
