Nopporo Shinrin Kouen Prefectural Natural Park
道立自然公園野幌森林公園（どうりつしぜんこうえんのっぽろしんりんこうえん）は、北海道江別市・札幌市・北広島市にある公園（道立自然公園）。
What it is
This is a large forested prefectural park covering ground across Sapporo, Ebetsu, and Kitahiroshima, made up mostly of natural woodland rather than manicured gardens. It's a place to walk under trees rather than see monuments — the appeal is the forest itself, plus a network of trails through it. It also sits next to two museum-type sites, so people often treat the park as part of a longer half-day out rather than a destination on its own.
Getting there
The park is on the eastern edge of Sapporo, away from the central downtown area, so plan on a taxi, car, or a combination of train/bus rather than an easy walk from the city centre. Allow roughly 30-40 minutes from central Sapporo depending on traffic and connections.
Time to allow
An hour or two is enough for a walk along one or two trails. If you're combining it with the neighbouring museums, budget a half-day for the area as a whole.
When to go
Go in daylight hours and check conditions before visiting in winter, when trails can be snow-covered. Autumn is a reasonable time for the forest colours, though exact timing varies year to year. The park is large enough that it rarely feels crowded even when the nearby museums draw visitors.
What to combine it with
The Hokkaido Museum is just 0.3km away, and the Historical Village of Hokkaido is about 0.5km away — both sit close enough to pair with a park walk in the same outing. The Sapporo Japan Temple (5.5km) and Sapporo Harisutosu Seikyōkai (8.8km) are farther off and would need a separate trip or transport.
