Purbakala Archaeological Museum
What it is
This small museum in Bedulu displays archaeological finds from around Bali, with the collection centred on stone sarcophagi from the island's prehistoric period. Cases also hold ceramics, tools, and other artifacts excavated from local sites. It's a low-key stop, more informative than visually spectacular, and works best for visitors curious about Bali's history before Hindu-Balinese temple culture took hold.
Getting there
The museum sits in Bedulu village, a short drive from Ubud's centre — figure on around 15-20 minutes by car or scooter depending on traffic. It's easily combined into a loop with the other Bedulu-area sites rather than visited on its own.
How long to spend
The exhibits are compact, so 20-30 minutes is generally enough to walk through the displays at a comfortable pace.
When to go
As an indoor museum, it isn't especially weather-dependent, making it a reasonable option if it's raining and you want to keep a Bedulu itinerary going. It doesn't tend to draw the crowds that nearby Goa Gajah does, so timing your visit around the day isn't a major concern.
