Għar Dalam

Għar Dalam is a 144-meter limestone cave located in Birżebbuġa. It is a site of paleontological and prehistoric significance, where fossils of animals from the Pleistocene and Holocene eras were discovered. Travelers visit this location to see evidence of Malta's prehistoric wildlife and early human history.

Getting There

The cave is located south of the main urban centers. From Valletta, you can reach the site via public bus or taxi. The journey typically takes between 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

When to Visit

The cave provides natural shade, making it a viable visit during the summer months. To avoid the midday heat of the Maltese sun during the walk to the entrance, morning or late afternoon visits are recommended. It generally does not experience the same level of crowding as the primary city centers.
