Sinqa Peak

Sinqa is a mountain peak in the Andes northwest of Cusco, reaching an elevation of 4,423 meters. Travelers visit this site primarily for trekking and to observe high-mountain landscapes from a high altitude.

Getting There

The peak is located outside the main city center of Cusco. Access typically requires a vehicle to reach the trailhead, followed by a hike. Travel time from the city center varies depending on the mode of transport and road conditions, but generally takes approximately one hour to reach the base area.

Duration of Visit

Visitors should allow a full day for the experience. This accounts for the ascent and descent of the peak, as well as the time needed for the body to adjust to the altitude during the trek.

When to Visit

The best time to visit is during the dry season (May to October) to avoid heavy rains and landslides on the trails. It is advisable to start the trek early in the morning to avoid afternoon weather changes common in the Andes. This location is less crowded than the primary archaeological sites in the city.

Nearby Attractions

Due to its location, this peak can be combined with other nearby sites in the northwest corridor of Cusco:

  • Quespewara: 4.6km
  • Tambomachay: 5.1km
  • Puka Pukara: 5.6km
  • Saqsaywaman: 6.2km
