Casa Buonarroti
What it is
Casa Buonarroti is a small house museum built on property Michelangelo owned but never lived in; his great-nephew converted it into a memorial gallery in his honor. The main draw is seeing two of Michelangelo's earliest marble reliefs, the Madonna of the Stairs and the Battle of the Centaurs, carved while he was still a teenager. Beyond the sculptures, the rooms hold a family archive with letters and drawings, plus a gallery ceiling decorated with paintings commissioned to celebrate his life. Getting there
The house sits in central Florence, within easy walking distance of the Duomo and Santa Croce.
