The Pyramid of Djoser

Located in Saqqara, this structure is the earliest pyramid built in Egypt. It served as the tomb for Pharaoh Djoser in the 27th century BCE and is characterized by its step shape. Visitors go here to see the transition from flat-roofed mastaba tombs to the pyramid form and to explore the surrounding funerary complex.

Getting There

The site is located south of Cairo. From the city centre, the most common way to reach the complex is by taxi or ride-sharing service. The journey typically takes between 45 to 90 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Allow approximately 2 to 3 hours to walk through the complex and view the main structure and its surrounding courtyards.

When to Visit

Early morning is recommended to avoid the midday heat and the largest crowds. The cooler winter months are the most suitable season for visiting. The site can get crowded, particularly during peak tourist seasons.
