Gothenburg Mosque
Overview
The Gothenburg Mosque is an Islamic place of worship located at the foot of Ramberget on Hisingen island. Opened in 2011, the complex features contemporary Islamic architecture with a minaret and central dome. Travellers visit primarily to see modern religious architecture in Northern Europe.
Getting There
From Gothenburg city centre, public trams or buses travel across the river to Hisingen. The journey takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes, followed by a short walk to the site.
Time to Allow
Allow around 30 to 45 minutes to view the building exterior and grounds.
When to Visit
Midday on Fridays coincides with congregational prayers and brings high foot traffic; non-worshipping visitors should avoid this time to prevent disruption. Weekday mornings or early afternoons outside of scheduled prayer times are suitable for a quiet visit. Respectful, modest dress is expected on the grounds.
Nearby Attractions
You can combine a visit with several riverside attractions located nearby:
- HSwMS Småland (1.1 km): A preserved naval destroyer on the riverfront.
- HSwMS Sölve (1.1 km): A historic naval warship moored along the river.
- Maritiman (1.2 km): A floating museum collection of historic vessels.
- Göteborgsoperan (1.3 km): The city's waterfront opera house.
