Overview

Lovćen is a forested mountain in southwestern Montenegro that gave the country its name. Travellers visit for alpine hiking trails, elevated views across the coastal terrain, and cultural landmarks situated on its peaks.

Getting There

From the centre of Kotor, the drive takes roughly 45 to 60 minutes by car or taxi along the winding Kotor Serpentine road (P1) into the mountain passes.

Visit Duration

Allow between 2 and 4 hours on-site to explore the summits and walking paths, excluding the driving time to and from the coast.

When to Visit

The practical visiting season runs from May to October, when roads are free of snow. Summer afternoons bring heavy tour bus traffic and crowded viewpoints. Visiting in the early morning provides clearer weather and avoids road congestion.
