Štirovnik is the highest peak of the Lovćen mountain range, reaching an elevation of 1,749 meters. Because the actual summit contains military facilities and telecommunications towers, access to the highest point is restricted. Travelers typically hike to the nearby Jezerski Vrh to view the surrounding landscape of Montenegro.

Getting There

The peak is located in the mountains above Kotor. Access requires a vehicle to reach the Lovćen region, followed by a hike. From Kotor city centre, the drive to the base of the mountain range takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes via the winding serpentine roads.

Time Allocation

Depending on the starting point and the hiker's pace, allow 3 to 5 hours for a round trip to the viewpoint. This includes the ascent and time spent at the top.

When to Visit

The best time to visit is during the late spring and summer months when the mountain passes are clear of snow. Early morning is recommended to avoid midday heat and potential afternoon thunderstorms. The area does not typically experience the same level of crowding as the coastal towns.
