KV16: Tomb of Ramesses I

KV16 is an ancient Egyptian tomb located in the Valley of the Kings. It served as the final resting place for Ramesses I, the founder of the Nineteenth Dynasty. Visitors go here to see the early New Kingdom funerary architecture and the wall reliefs that depict the pharaoh's journey into the afterlife. The site was rediscovered in 1817 by Giovanni Belzoni.

Getting There

The tomb is located on the West Bank of the Nile. From Luxor city centre, travelers typically cross the river via ferry or bridge and take a taxi or shuttle to the Valley of the Kings entrance. The journey generally takes 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic and the crossing method.

Visit Duration

Allow approximately 30 to 60 minutes to explore the interior of the tomb and observe the remaining artwork.

Timing and Crowds

The Valley of the Kings is subject to extreme heat, so visiting in the early morning is recommended. The winter months are the most temperate season for exploration. This area of the valley can become crowded with tour groups, particularly during the peak tourist season.
