KV20: The Tomb of Thutmose I

KV20 is an ancient Egyptian royal tomb located in the Valley of the Valley of the Kings in Luxor. It is believed to be the earliest royal tomb constructed in this valley. Originally built for Pharaoh Thutmose I, the structure was later enlarged by his daughter, Hatshepsut, to accommodate both of their burials. Visitors go here to see the early architectural layout of royal tombs and the results of the excavation completed by Howard Carter in 1903–1904.

Getting There

The tomb is located on the West Bank of the Nile. From Luxor city centre, you must cross the river via ferry or bridge and then travel by taxi or hired vehicle to the Valley of the Kings. The journey typically takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic and the crossing method.

Allow approximately 45 to 60 minutes to explore the tomb and its corridors.

When to Visit

The site is outdoors and exposed to direct sun, so arriving early in the morning is recommended to avoid peak heat. The cooler winter months are the most suitable seasonable for visiting. This area of the valley can become crowded during peak tourist seasons, particularly during mid-day arrival windows.
