KV9: The Tomb of Ramesses V and VI

KV9 is an ancient Egyptian tomb located in the Valley of the Kings. Originally constructed for Ramesses V, it was later expanded and reused by his successor and uncle, Ramesses VI. Visitors go here to see the preserved wall reliefs and astronomical ceilings that illustrate the funerary beliefs and architectural styles of the New Kingdom pharaonic era.

Getting There

The tomb is located on the West Bank of the Nile. From Luxor city centre, travelers typically take a taxi or a ferry to the West Bank and then a short drive to the Valley of the Kings entrance. The total travel time is approximately 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic and the crossing method.

Visit Duration

Allow roughly 45 to 60 minutes to walk through the tomb and examine the detailed carvings and inscriptions on the walls.

When to Visit

Early morning is recommended to avoid the midday heat and the largest crowds. The site gets crowded during the peak winter tourist season. Avoid visiting during the height of summer when temperatures in the valley can be extreme.
