KV8: The Tomb of Merneptah

KV8 is the burial site of Merneptah, a pharaoh of the 19th Dynasty, located within the Valley of the Kings in Luxor. Travelers visit this site to view the royal architecture and the preserved wall reliefs and inscriptions that characterize the New Kingdom period.

Getting There

The tomb is located on the West Bank of the Nile. From Luxor city centre, visitors typically cross the river via ferry or bridge and take a taxi or shuttle to the Valley of the Kings entrance. The journey generally takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic and the crossing method.

Visit Duration

Allow approximately 45 to 60 minutes to explore the interior of the tomb and observe the detailed carvings.

Timing and Crowds

The site is outdoors and can reach high temperatures, so early morning visits are recommended. The Valley of the Kings is a major tourist hub and frequently becomes crowded, particularly during the peak winter season from November to February.
