WV25
WV25 is an unfinished tomb located in the western Valley of the Kings. It is believed to have been initiated as the Theban tomb for Pharaoh Akhenaten before it was abandoned. The site is of interest to those studying the Amarna period and the transition of Egyptian religious practices. It was discovered in 1817 by Giovanni Belzoni, who found eight mummies within the structure, and was later excavated by a University of Minnesota expedition in 1972.
Getting There
The site is located on the West Bank of Luxor. From the city centre, visitors must cross the Nile via ferry or bridge and travel by taxi or hired vehicle to the Valley of the Kings. The journey typically takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic and the crossing method.
