Qal’at al Bahrain
This archaeological site contains the ruins of an ancient fort and the former capital of the Dilmun civilization. Visitors go here to see the layered remains of various cultures, including the Kassites and the Portuguese. Due to its historical significance, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.
Getting There
The fort is located a short distance from the center of Manama. The most practical way to reach the site is by taxi or rental car, which typically takes about 10 to 15 minutes depending on traffic.
Duration of Visit
Allow approximately two to three hours to walk through the ruins and explore the onsite museum.
When to Visit
Visit during the winter months when temperatures are lower, as the site is outdoors and exposed to the sun. Late afternoon is recommended to avoid the midday heat. The site can become crowded during local public holidays and weekends.
