Santa Maria della Passione is a late Renaissance church in central Milan, notable for its scale — it's the second-largest church in the city after the Duomo. Travellers visit for the interior: a domed crossing, side chapels with Mannerist and Baroque paintings, and decorative work that gives a sense of Milanese religious art without the crowds of the cathedral. It's attached to a former monastery that now houses the Milan Conservatory, so the surrounding complex has an academic, lived-in feel rather than a purely touristic one.
Getting there
From Milan's city centre (Duomo area), it's a walk of around 15-20 minutes, or a short metro or tram ride toward the San Babila / Palestro side of town. If arriving from either Malpensa (MXP) or Linate (LIN) airport, plan to first reach the centre by train or bus, then continue on foot or local transit to the church.
How much time to allow
Most visitors spend 20-30 minutes inside, longer if you want to look closely at the chapel paintings or linger under the dome.
When to go
Mornings tend to be quieter, and natural light through the windows shows the interior better than late afternoon. Because the church sometimes hosts concerts or Conservatory-related events, ambience can vary depending on when you arrive.
