San Francesco di Paola
What it is
San Francesco di Paola is the domed church that forms the backdrop of Piazza del Plebiscito, built in the early 19th century with a curved colonnade that deliberately echoes St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The interior is a large circular hall ringed with columns, capped by a coffered dome, and worth stepping into if you're already crossing the square rather than a destination in its own right.

It sits right on Piazza del Plebiscito in the heart of historic Naples, an easy walk from Via Toledo, the waterfront at Via Partenope, or the Municipio metro stop, all within about 10-15 minutes on foot from most central hotels.

The piazza and church front get busy around midday and on weekends when tour groups and locals fill the square; an early morning or early evening visit gives a calmer view of the colonnade and better light for photos. Naples summers are hot, so shade is limited in the open piazza itself.
