Yersin Museum

Yersin Museum

The Alexandre Yersin Museum, or simply known as Yersin Museum, is a museum in Nha Trang, Vietnam. It is dedicated to Alexandre Yersin, the French-Swiss bacteriologist.

Yersin Museum

This small museum in central Nha Trang is dedicated to Alexandre Yersin, the French-Swiss physician and bacteriologist who lived and worked in Vietnam and is remembered locally for his research on the plague bacterium and for founding the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang. The museum occupies part of that institute and displays his personal effects, laboratory equipment, books, and documents related to his life and scientific work. It's a good stop for travellers curious about the region's colonial-era medical and scientific history, or about why Yersin is such a well-regarded figure in Vietnam.

Getting there

The museum sits in central Nha Trang, an easy walk or short taxi/ride-hail trip from most hotels along the beachfront or in the city centre — typically well under 15 minutes by car. If arriving from Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR), it's roughly 45 minutes to an hour by taxi or transfer van, since the airport is well outside the city.

Time to allow

The exhibition space is compact, so 30 to 45 minutes is usually enough to see the displays.

When to go

As an indoor museum, it's a reasonable option during the hottest part of the day or if you want a break from the beach. It's not typically crowded, so there's no strong need to time your visit around avoiding queues.

Combine it with

  • The Roman Catholic Diocese of Nha Trang and Christ the King Cathedral, both about 1km away, can be visited together on the same walk or short ride.
  • Po Nagar, the Cham temple complex, is about 1.5km away and pairs well as a half-day itinerary combining history and architecture.
  • Long Sơn Pagoda, roughly 1.7km away, is a further stop if you have more time for temple and religious sites in the city.
