Hòn Đỏ
Hòn Đỏ, or "Red Island," is a small rocky islet just off the coast near Nha Trang, named for the reddish tone of its stone. It's a low-key nature stop rather than a developed sight: travellers come for the coastal scenery, the short boat crossing, and a look at the fishing life around the islet, rather than for any single landmark on it.
Getting there
Hòn Đỏ sits close to the northern part of Nha Trang, near the mouth of the Cai River, not far from Po Nagar Cham Towers. From the city centre, plan on a short drive to the nearest jetty or fishing harbour followed by a brief boat ride out to the islet. Total travel time from central Nha Trang is usually under 30 minutes door to door, depending on where the boat departs from.
How long to stay
Because the island itself is small, an hour or two is enough to walk around, take in the views back toward the coast, and return by boat.
When to go
Mornings tend to have calmer seas and better light for photos. Like other boat trips along this stretch of coast, conditions can get rougher in the wetter months toward the end of the year, so it's worth checking sea conditions before heading out rather than assuming the crossing will run.
