Pantheon
パンテオン (Pantheon) は、ローマ市内のマルス広場に建造された神殿。元々は、すべてのローマ神を奉る万神殿であった。汎神殿（はんしんでん）とも訳される。
What it is
The Pantheon is a former Roman temple from the 2nd century, still standing largely intact, that has functioned as a Catholic church since AD 609. Most visitors come for the building itself rather than a collection: the coffered concrete dome with its open oculus, the massive bronze doors, and the scale of the portico columns. It also holds the tombs of several historical figures, including the painter Raphael. It's often listed under museums and galleries, but it functions more as a historic monument and active church than a museum with curated exhibits.
Getting there
The Pantheon sits in Rome's historic centre, an area best reached on foot from most central hotels. If you're coming from further out, the nearest useful public transport is bus rather than metro, since no metro line runs directly through this part of the centre. Walking from Piazza Navona takes only a few minutes.
How much time to allow
Most people spend 20 to 40 minutes inside, enough to take in the dome and walk the perimeter. Allow extra time if you plan to sit in the piazza outside, which is a popular spot to pause.
When to go
The interior is a single open space, so it fills up quickly and can feel crowded around midday and in early afternoon. Early morning tends to be calmer. The piazza outside is lively with cafes and street performers most of the day and into the evening.
