Tas-Silġ
Tas-Silġ Archaeological Site
Located on a hill overlooking Marsaxlokk Bay, this site contains archaeological remains spanning four thousand years. Visitors can see a sequence of structures including Neolithic megalithic temple ruins, followed by Phoenician and Roman developments. It serves as a physical record of the island's transition through different Mediterranean civilizations.
Getting There
The site is located in the southern region of Malta. From the center of Birkirkara, the most efficient way to reach the ruins is by car or taxi, which typically takes about 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. Public buses are available, though they may require a transfer and increase the travel time.
Visit Duration
Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to walk through the ruins and view the various historical layers of the site.
When to Visit
Morning visits are recommended to avoid the midday heat, as the site is exposed. The shoulder seasons of spring and autumn offer the most temperate weather for outdoor exploration. It does not typically experience the same level of crowding as the primary city centers.
