Giza Plateau
The Giza Plateau is a limestone plateau located on the outskirts of Cairo. It serves as the site for the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, as well as the Great Sphinx. Visitors go here to see these ancient structures, along with the remains of a workers' village and various tomb complexes that provide evidence of ancient Egyptian civilization.
Getting There
The site is located west of Cairo's city centre. Travelers typically reach the plateau via taxi or ride-sharing services. Depending on traffic conditions, the journey generally takes between 30 to 60 minutes.
Duration of Visit
Allow at least half a day to explore the main structures and the surrounding plateau. Those intending to walk between the different pyramid complexes and visit the Sphinx should plan for a full day.
When to Visit
The area gets crowded, particularly during peak tourist seasons. To avoid the highest temperatures and the largest crowds, arriving early in the morning is recommended. The cooler winter months are generally more suitable for walking across the open plateau.
