Located at the Zawyet el-Aryan archaeological site, this structure is a step pyramid dating back to Egypt's Third Dynasty. It is currently in ruins, but it serves as a physical record of the early evolution of pyramid architecture. Travelers visit this site to see the transition from earlier mastaba tombs to the more complex pyramid forms found in later dynasties.

The site is located on the outskirts of Cairo. The most practical way to reach it from the city centre is by hiring a private car or using a ride-sharing service. Depending on traffic conditions, the journey typically takes between 45 to 90 minutes.

Because the site is smaller and less developed than the major pyramid complexes, most visitors spend approximately 1 to 2 hours exploring the ruins and the surrounding archaeological area.

Early morning is recommended to avoid the midday heat, particularly during the summer months. The site does not experience the same level of crowding as the Giza plateau, making it a quieter alternative for those avoiding large tour groups.
