The Pyramid of Djoser
Located in Saqqara, this structure is the earliest known pyramid built in Egypt. Constructed in the 27th century BC as a funerary complex for Pharaoh Djoser, it is a step pyramid rather than a smooth-sided one. Travelers visit this site to see the transition in ancient Egyptian burial architecture and to explore the surrounding complex of courtyards and chapels.
Getting There
The site is located south of Cairo's city center. Most visitors reach Saqqara via taxi or private car. Depending on traffic conditions in Cairo, the journey typically takes between 45 and 90 minutes.

Allow approximately 2 to 3 hours to walk through the funerary complex and view the pyramid from the exterior. If you intend to explore the surrounding archaeological area, additional time will be required.
When to Visit
