About Little Petra

Little Petra is a Nabataean archaeological site located north of the main Petra city. It consists of structures and dwellings carved directly into the sandstone walls of a canyon. Travelers visit this site to see the smaller-scale rock-cut architecture and the remnants of a trade outpost that served the larger city of Petra.

Getting There

The site is located near the village of Wadi Musa. From the center of town, it is accessible via a short drive or taxi ride. The journey typically takes about 10 to 15 minutes depending on traffic and the specific starting point within the village.

Duration of Visit

Because the site is smaller than the main Petra archaeological park, visitors generally spend between 1 and 2 hours exploring the canyon and the carved facades.

When to Visit

Early morning or late afternoon is recommended to avoid the midday heat. Spring and autumn are the most temperate seasons for visiting the sandstone canyons. While it is less crowded than the main Treasury area of Petra, it can still see an increase in visitors during peak tourist seasons.
