City Layout and Districts

Trondheim is a compact city centered around the Nidelva river. To navigate it easily, think of it in three main zones:

• The City Center (Midtbyen): The pedestrian-friendly core containing the main shopping streets and the historic wharf.
• Bakklandet: Located just across the bridge from the center, this is the most picturesque district, known for colorful wooden houses and cobblestone streets.

Transport and Arrival

From the Airport: Arrival is via Trondheim Airport, Værnes (TRD). The most efficient way to reach the city center is the Flybussen (airport express bus) or the local train, both of which run frequently to the central station.

Getting Around: The city center is highly walkable. For longer distances, use the AtB public transport system (buses and trams). The city is also very bike-friendly, with dedicated lanes connecting the residential areas to the core.
