Where should families stay in Da Nang: beach strip, city center, or Son Tra?

Choosing where to stay in Da Nang with kids

Da Nang splits into a long beach strip facing the East Sea, a working city center along the Han River, and the quieter Son Tra peninsula. For families, the choice mostly comes down to how much walking you want to do versus how much you'll rely on Grab.

My Khe / My An (An Thuong area)

The most practical base for most families. Resorts and mid-range hotels line the beach, with the An Thuong streets behind packed with restaurants, convenience stores and pharmacies within walking distance. It's roughly 15-20 minutes from Da Nang International Airport (DAD) by taxi or Grab, and Dragon Bridge and the riverside night market are a short ride away.

Han River / city center

Staying near Dragon Bridge or Con Market suits families who want to see the bridge shows on foot and use taxis less for evening sightseeing. Beach access here means a ride, not a walk, and the area is more urban and less beach-resort in character.

Son Tra peninsula

Home to large family resorts with private beach frontage and extensive grounds, good for younger kids who don't need much outside the property. The tradeoff is distance: restaurants and shops outside the resort are limited, so expect to depend on Grab or taxis for anything off-site.

Transport notes

There's no metro in Da Nang. Grab is the easiest way to move between areas with kids and strollers; metered taxis work well for airport transfers. Motorbike taxis aren't practical with young children or luggage.

What to check before booking

• Whether the beach is directly across the road (some strip hotels require crossing traffic or a tunnel to reach the sand)
• Kids' pool depth and separate kids' pool, not just a shared adult pool
• Connecting rooms or family suite configurations, and crib availability
• Distance to a pharmacy or clinic, especially for resorts on Son Tra

When to visit

Da Nang is a major destination for Korean family travelers, so school holiday periods in Korea, along with Vietnamese Tet (January-February) and summer months, push up demand on the beach strip. Typhoon season (roughly October-November) can affect flights and beach conditions, so booking flexibility matters more if traveling then.
