Naples suits couples best when the base is calm at night but still close to the historic center. Three areas cover most of what this trip needs.

Chiaia and the Lungomare

The most polished part of central Naples, with Via Chiaia and Piazza dei Martiri lined with boutiques and quieter streets behind them. The nearby seafront promenade past Castel dell'Ovo is traffic-free and good for an evening walk. Served by Line 1's Amedeo and Chiaia stations.

Centro Storico

Staying among Spaccanapoli and San Gregorio Armeno puts the Duomo and street life at the door. Atmospheric but loud into the night, and pickpocketing is a genuine concern, so keep bags secure and avoid ground-floor street-facing rooms.

Vomero

Up the hill, quieter and residential, with views from Castel Sant'Elmo. The Centrale, Chiaia, and Montesanto funiculars link it to the center in minutes, so distance from the noise doesn't cost much convenience.

Transport

Capodichino Airport (NAP) reaches the center by Alibus or Line 1. Line 1 links most of these areas and the main sights; several stations, including Toledo and Municipio, are art installations worth seeing on their own. Line 2 covers the Chiaia/Cavalleggeri stretch; ferries near Municipio run to Capri and Sorrento.

• Ask about street noise and request an upper floor or courtyard room, especially in Centro Storico.
• Confirm air conditioning for summer and check for a lift, since older buildings often only have stairs.
• Check walking distance to the nearest Line 1 stop or funicular, not just distance to the center.

Late spring and early autumn bring comfortable weather before the August surge toward the Amalfi Coast and Capri, which also fills Naples as the gateway city. Book early for Vomero and for sea-facing rooms in peak months.
