Where to stay in Naples for easy access to trains and the metro

Naples runs on two metro lines and a hillside funicular network, so "central" here means close to a Line 1 or Line 2 stop. Three areas cover most needs.

Piazza Garibaldi and Napoli Centrale

The transport hub: Napoli Centrale sits above Garibaldi metro (Line 1 and Line 2) and the Circumvesuviana platforms for Pompeii and Sorrento. Good for early departures and airport shuttle access, but the square is busy, known for petty theft, and noisy at night.

Toledo, Municipio and the port

Toledo is one of the decorated "art stations" on Line 1; Municipio connects the metro to Molo Beverello, where ferries leave for Capri, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. Inside the old center, walking distance to Via Toledo and the Spanish Quarter — suits sightseeing and ferry connections.

Museo and Piazza Cavour

Museo (also an art station) and Cavour on Line 2 sit at the edge of the historic center near the Archaeological Museum. Quieter and more residential than Garibaldi or Toledo, with the same two-line access.

What to check before booking

• Distance to the actual station entrance, not just the neighborhood name — a few streets can mean a steep walk.
• Noise and window glazing near Garibaldi and Toledo, busy day and night.
• Stairs and lift access, since many buildings in the center are older walk-ups.
• Whether the property is near a funicular base if you plan to reach the Vomero hill.

When to visit

Rooms near Garibaldi and Municipio fill up fastest in summer and around Easter, when day-trippers to Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast want early access to trains and ferries. Book ahead for those periods; shoulder-season months leave more choice near the stations.
