Where to stay in Bali for a 5-star trip: Seminyak, Ubud or Nusa Dua
Bali has no metro or rail, so every stay depends on road transfers, and south-coast traffic can stretch a short distance into a long drive. Pick one base per stretch instead of switching areas daily.
Seminyak
Beach clubs, sunset dining and boutique villa compounds. Suits travelers wanting beachfront luxury with restaurants and shopping close by, not a sealed resort. Closest of the three to Kuta and Canggu, about 20-40 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) depending on traffic.
Ubud
Inland among rice terraces, with the highest concentration of wellness and spa-led resorts. No beach access, so it fits honeymooners and wellness travelers prioritizing quiet and jungle or valley views. Furthest from the airport, often 60-90 minutes each way, and from any coastline.
Nusa Dua
A gated enclave of large resort compounds with calm, sheltered beaches. Suits travelers wanting a self-contained resort with reliable beach access, including families. Shortest airport transfer, usually 15-25 minutes, but least walkable to outside restaurants.
Getting between areas
Transfers rely on hotel cars, private drivers or ride-hailing apps, which face pickup restrictions in parts of Ubud and Nusa Dua. Allow real time for a day trip to another area.
What to check before booking
- Whether pool or beach access is private, shared, or across a public road
- Whether airport transfer is included or arranged separately
- Spa and wellness facility scope if that's the focus
- Whether the property is walkable or shuttle-dependent
When to visit
Dry season (roughly April-October) sees the most demand, with July, August and December-January holidays tightest for availability. Wet season brings fewer crowds but more rain. Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence, closes the island, including the airport, for a full day each year.

Temples & religious sites
Tanah Lot
Tanah Lot is a Hindu temple built on a rock formation off Bali's coast, and one of the island's most famous photo spots. Since the temple itself is a sacred pilgrimage site rather than a place open for interior visits, the main draw is the view of the rock and temple silhouette surrounded by water at high tide, especially against the sunset.

Goa Gajah
Goa Gajah is a rock-cut cave site in Gianyar near Ubud, Bali, dating to around the 9th century. It's said to have served as a place of meditation and worship where Hindu and Buddhist beliefs coexisted. Its entrance was carved into a rock face bearing a giant carved face, which gave the site its name, "Elephant Cave."
Nature
Sanur Beach
Sanur is a calm-water beach on Bali's southeastern coast. An offshore coral reef blocks large waves, making it better suited to swimming, paddleboarding, and beach walks than surfing. A long boardwalk runs along the shore, ideal for walking or cycling, and since the coast faces east, many visitors come early in the morning to watch the sunrise.

Pura Luhur
Pura Luhur Uluwatu is a Balinese Hindu temple perched on limestone cliffs at the southwestern tip of the Bukit Peninsula, overlooking the Indian Ocean. It is Bali's only sea temple and is counted among the nine directional temples believed to guard the island.
