When to Visit Bali

Bali sits near the equator, so temperatures stay warm all year; the real variable between seasons is rainfall and humidity, not heat.

Dry season: April to October

Skies are mostly clear, humidity is lower, and this is when Ubud's rice terraces and Nusa Dua's beaches are most comfortable for full-day activity. July and August overlap with school holidays worldwide, so flights into Ngurah Rai (DPS) and ground transport get booked up and roads between Seminyak, Ubud and Nusa Dua slow down noticeably.

Wet season: November to March

Expect short, heavy afternoon downpours rather than all-day rain; mornings are often clear. January and February bring the heaviest rainfall and highest humidity. Ubud's inland, forested setting feels cooler and greener now, while Seminyak's beach clubs are quieter.

Dates that change everything

  • Nyepi (Day of Silence): falls in March on the Balinese Saka calendar and changes date yearly. The entire island, including the airport, shuts down for 24 hours; no travel is allowed even on foot. Confirm the exact date before booking around it.
  • Christmas and New Year: heavy demand and traffic across all three areas; book transport and accommodation well ahead.

Choosing where to stay by season

There is no metro on Bali, so moving between Seminyak, Ubud and Nusa Dua means a private driver or rental scooter, and journeys often exceed an hour in traffic. Pick one base for each stretch of the trip rather than commuting daily between them.

What to pack

  • Dry season: lightweight breathable clothing, strong sun protection, refillable water bottle.
  • Wet season: quick-dry fabrics, a compact umbrella, a waterproof phone pouch, and shoes that dry fast.
